FBC of Stillwater began meeting in November of 1892. Rev. Samuel Huntsberry served as the organizing moderator. Our first building was constructed in 1898. Quickly outgrowing the first space, the current location was dedicated in June, 1909. FBC has been a mission focused church from the beginning and still is to this date, having a hand in helping to start several churches in the Stillwater area. Our mission commitment also includes missionaries both stateside and world wide.

In January of 1902, the church was incorporated as the First Baptist Church of Stillwater. In 1914 the congregation voted to cooperate with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Our current building located on the Southeast corner of 7th & Duncan was dedicated in June of 1929. Great growth in the following years added to the original building, bringing it to what it is today. In 1952 the current 700 seat sanctuary was added to the existing structure to accommodate our growing congregation.

In the years to come, the First Baptist Church of Stillwater was gifted the Watson Building as well as property on the North West corner of 8th & Duncan.

In 1993 the First Baptist Church Foundation was established to ensure our financial security. Through the Foundation, we have been able to perform regular maintenance, repairs and updates to our current facility that may not have been possible. With this partnership First Baptist Church Stillwater is currently debt free.

The dynamic of our church is well organized with a church council and standing committees to address needs and operations within the church congregation.

First Baptist church of Stillwater currently operates under the Baptist Faith and Message of 1963. We provide a traditional Baptist worship service every Sunday with a long standing tradition of hymn singing and choral music. Please take a chance to view one of our past services here: https://www.fbcstillwater.org/listen-online/

Each Sunday school class currently has approximately 8-10 members. We host classes for various Bible study methods. We offer traditional lecture classes as well as more discussion based classes. We are growing our youth program at this time, and asking for their involvement in the direction of their classes.
Our congregation includes young families as well as OSU college students with most of our members falling into the 65+ category. While we are incredibly thankful for each and every member, we are always excited at the thought of growing our congregation.

Each year FBC Stillwater takes part in several events within the Stillwater Community. Annually Downtown Stillwater hosts a trick-or-treat night to invite families downtown to a safe area to take their young children to trick or treat. For several years, FBC Stillwater has set up a “Trunk or Treat” event in our South Parking Lot to serve hot dogs and water to visitors. We enjoy this time to reach out to area community members.

Often in December FBC Stillwater works alongside several other area churches and community singers to produce a Christmas Cantata. This event is always a spectacular display of our community’s singers to celebrate Jesus. With the sanctuary decorated wonderfully, we open our doors to the community to enjoy this concert and ring in the spirit of Christmas.

First Baptist Church of Stillwater has a long standing history of supporting local and global churches. This support continues today through our support of the Iglesia Bautista Bethel Spanish Church housed in the Watson building.

What We Believe

God is Creator, Sovereign, eternal, personal, and a Trinity.

Jesus is God’s Son. He lived a sinless life, was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. Jesus is coming again.

Holy Spirit is the Guide, Helper, Comforter. He convicts us of sin, and empowers us for spiritual growth.

The Bible is God’s Word. It was inspired by God and recorded by men. The Bible is true.

Men are created in God’s image. God’s purpose for man is to know God and make Him known. Men are sinful. Sin separates men from God.

Salvation is reconciliation to God. It is His gift to us and is available only through faith in Jesus.

Fellowship with other believers is crucial for spiritual development. We share and learn from each others’ stories.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion) are symbolic acts that remind us of what God has done for us in Christ.

Every believer has a responsibility to share the Story of Jesus.
